Always my captain
So much of science fiction is paradoxically afraid of technology and change; it’s a genre full of cautionary tales about the way that societal trend X or technology Y (or technology-related societal trend Z) is going to destroy us or bring out the worst in us. And those are worthwhile stories, of course, but I find ST:TOS so refreshing because it really seems to believe that we can be better, that we can improve the world instead of ruining it, and that technology can help us do that.
